The local bastide towns, remnants of battle days, provide visitors with beautiful and historic places to visit. The views from the top are outstanding and "on a clear day you can see for ever".....!
There are canoe rentals on the Lot river and there are cycle routes and bikes to rent. Bike hire is also available in and around our local town of Montaigu de Quercy where you will find a lake and sandy beach.
Near to The French Farmhouse there are three vineyards in the Thezac Perricard IGP, here you will be welcome to taste the wines of the region. Traveling further afield, Cahors is about a 45 minute drive to the east, a journey that takes you past many different vineyards. Gascony is to the south of us and our local shops have a good selection of "Cotes de Gascogne".
More Ideas.....
Albi
A world heritage city with a historic centre and museums to explore. A long day out but probably worth it.
Cahors
Pont Valentre, Cathedral Saint-Etienne, Cap Nature (activity centre “for children from 7 to 70”) and a Wednesday and Saturday market, make Cahors a great place to visit.
Fumel
Fumel is on the River Lot and just next to Fumel is Montayral and here you will find our nearest hypermarket, L'Eclerc. This is an out of town shopping Zone with a huge array of stores. Monsempron-Libos is nearby and its Thursday market is among the biggest I've seen. Don't leave shopping too late as markets generally start to close at noon.
Lauzerte
This medieval bastide town boasts some of the most amazing views of the surrounding area, so pick a clear day to visit. The square has cafe's and restaurants and live music can be found here on a Friday night in the summer. There is a tourist information office and more than a couple of beautiful galleries. Really worth a visit and only 25 minutes away.
Lacour
This quiet village is just a little further on from Roquecor. Look out for the beautiful views and Domaine de Lausinie with it’s horse riding and restaurant.
Montcuq
We love to visit here on a Sunday morning because it's market day. It's a big event and there's food, clothes, in fact all sorts of things to see and buy. There are cafe's and restaurants and it just has a great French vibe.
Prayssac
The market day here is Friday. It takes about 40 minutes to get there, but travel through the vineyards and enjoy the beautiful views.
Roquecor
The Cafe du Centre is a great place to sit and have a drink or enjoy some fabulous food outside. If you want to eat on a Sunday be sure to book as there is a small market here in the morning and the cafe fills up quickly. This town has galleries, a few small shops and a lovely ambience, just sit and do a bit of people watching. Find the picture frame behind the Marie and admire the view. Just over ten minutes from The French Farmhouse.
Villeneuve-sur-Lot
The market day here is Tuesday and Saturday Mornings. Wander around this lovely town on the river Lot and on the way home visit Penne d'Agenais with its beautiful streets and church.
